Sweet & Sour Tempeh

Tempeh is a complete protein food made from soy beans and is originally from Indonesia. It is traditionally made through the natural process of fermentation, so it's easy on our digestion. It contains essential amino acids and Isoflavones. Isoflavones have many health benefits such as strengthening our bones, they help ease menopausal symptoms, reduce the risk of coronary heart disease and can help in reducing some cancers.

Ingredients

  • 1 Block Tempeh (200g)
  • 1 1/2 tbls Shoyu or Tamari (wheat free)
  • 2 tbls Lemon juice freshly squeezed
  • 2 tbls Mirin
  • Sunflower Oil for deep frying or shallow fry.

Method

  • Cut the tempeh into cubes or slices and deep fry until light golden.
  • Mix the mirin, shoyu and lemon-juice in a small pan and boil the deep-fried tempeh in the liquid on a low flame until all the liquid has soaked into the tempeh. Stir occasionally. Serve hot or cold.
